Vegan Cream Cheese Frosting

This vegan cream cheese frosting is just as creamy, sweet, and tangy as the classic kind, but it's totally dairy-free! I love it on cakes like my vegan carrot cake, cupcakes, cookies, bars, and more.

Ingredients

8 ounces vegan cream cheese*, slightly softened
3 tablespoons vegan butter, slightly softened
4 cups powdered sugar, more for a stiffer frosting, sifted if lumpy
¼ teaspoon pure vanilla extract

Instructions

In a large bowl, beat the vegan cream cheese and butter with an electric mixer until smooth.
Add the powdered sugar and vanilla and beat on low speed to incorporate, then increase the speed to medium and mix until smooth. If you prefer a stiffer frosting, beat in additional powdered sugar, 1 tablespoon at a time, until it reaches your desired consistency.
Spread on cooled baked goods right away, or store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 5 days.

Notes

*For the thickest frosting, use a brick-style vegan cream cheese like Violife Just Like Cream Cheese. I also like Kite Hill vegan cream cheese, but it yields a thinner frosting.
